Roller Banners: A Complete Guide to Sizes, Prices & Design Tips
Whether you are exhibiting at a trade show, launching an offer in your shop or welcoming visitors to an open day, roller banners are one of the simplest ways to make your business look professional. They pull up in seconds, pack into a carry bag and work almost anywhere indoors. In this guide we explain roller banner sizes, the different types, what they cost and how to design one that people actually read. If you already know what you need, you can order printed roller banners from £30 on our roller banner page.
Quick answer: Roller banners from PrintingX start at £30 including VAT for a desktop roller banner, with full-size Standard roller banners from £44.97. Every order includes a free artwork check, and we deliver across the UK.
What is a roller banner?
A roller banner, also called a pull-up banner, roll-up banner or retractable banner, is a printed graphic that rolls into an aluminium base. To set it up, you pull the graphic up and attach it to a support pole. To pack it away, it rolls back into the base. Because everything stores in one case, a roller banner is easy to carry, quick to set up and reusable at event after event.
Types of roller banner: which one do you need?
PrintingX offers four roller banner options. The right one depends on how often you will use it and where it will stand.
| Roller banner | Best for | Key features | Price from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Desktop | Reception desks, counters, menus and QR codes | Compact A4 tabletop format, lightweight and reusable | £30 |
| Standard | Occasional indoor events and retail promotions | 330gsm grey-back film, aluminium cassette, swing-out feet, padded carry bag, approx. 3kg | £44.97 |
| Premium | Frequent exhibitions and presentations | Scratch-resistant graphic, aluminium case with chrome end plates, approx. 5kg for extra stability, carry case | £85 |
| Heavy-Duty Double-Sided | Busy events where people approach from both sides | Two printed panels at 850 × 2000 mm, spring support and ground spikes for light outdoor use | £240 |

Standard or Premium: which is better value?
If you only need a banner for one or two events a year, the Standard roller banner is a practical, budget-friendly choice. If your banner will be set up and packed away every week, the Premium model’s heavier base and tougher graphic make it more stable and longer-lasting, which usually works out better value over time.
What size is a roller banner?
The most popular roller banner size in the UK is 850 mm wide by 2000 mm tall. It is large enough to be seen across a room or exhibition hall, yet still fits easily in a car boot. Desktop roller banners give you the same pull-up design in a compact tabletop size for counters and reception desks.
When you plan your design, remember that people read a roller banner from the top down and the bottom of the graphic sits just above the base. That is why the layout matters as much as the size.
How to design a roller banner that gets noticed
- Put your logo at the top. The top third of a roller banner is the part people see first, even across a busy room.
- Keep the message short. Aim for one clear headline and three or four supporting points at most. A roller banner is not a brochure.
- Use big, bold text. Your headline should be readable from several metres away, so avoid small text for anything important.
- Keep key content at eye level. Place your main message and call to action roughly between waist and head height, and keep important text out of the bottom section, which can be hidden by tables, people or the base.
- Choose strong contrast. Dark text on a light background, or white text on a dark background, is far easier to read than low-contrast colours.
- Use high-quality images. Photos must be high resolution at full print size, or they will look blurry close up.
- Add a clear call to action. Tell people what to do next: visit your website, scan a QR code, call you or ask about an offer.
Not a designer? Our in-house design team in Newcastle-under-Lyme can create your roller banner artwork from scratch, update an existing design or prepare your files for print. Design work is quoted separately, and you can order your roller banner without artwork and arrange the design afterwards.
Roller banner artwork requirements
- Supply PDF or JPEG artwork
- Set up your file in CMYK at the correct size for your banner
- Outline or embed all fonts
- Use high-resolution images
- Supply artwork for both sides if you order a double-sided banner
Every PrintingX roller banner includes a free artwork check: we review file size, colour setup, fonts and print readiness before production. You can upload up to five artwork files when you order on our roller banner page, send them later or ask our team to help.
Where can you use roller banners?
- Exhibitions and trade shows to make your stand easy to spot
- Shops and retail to promote launches, seasonal offers and services
- Indoor markets to give your stall a clear identity
- Salons and receptions to introduce treatments and packages where customers arrive
- Schools and community events to share open-day information, directions and sponsor messages
- Conferences and presentations as a branded backdrop behind speakers
Can roller banners be used outdoors?
Standard, Premium and Desktop roller banners are designed for indoor use. If you need a banner outside, the Heavy-Duty Double-Sided roller banner has spring support and ground spikes for light outdoor conditions, but it should still be brought indoors in strong wind or bad weather. For long-term outdoor advertising, an outdoor PVC banner or Heras fence cover is usually a better choice.
How to look after your roller banner
- Retract the graphic slowly, guiding it back into the base by hand.
- Make sure the banner is clean and dry before you pack it away.
- Store it in its carry bag, away from heat and direct sunlight.
- Never force the cassette or bend the support pole.
Looked after properly, a good roller banner can be used again and again at your events.
